WELCOME TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK!!!
MRS. RENEHAN'S GOALS FOR RELIGION CLASS: 1. To develop a personal
relationship with Jesus.
2.To explore different forms of prayer. 3.To understand the parts of the Mass. 4.To understand and have a reverence for the Eucharist. 5.To explore more deeply the Blessed Mother and the rosary, the Saints, and the Angels. 6.To understand how to make wise decisions as a teenager in the area of Christian morality. 7. To understand the history of the Catholic Church throughout the ages.
GRADE 8 EXPECTATIONS : This year the students will learn about the history of the Catholic Church throughout the ages. They will become familiar with the Bible and the parts of the Mass. Reverence for the Blessed Sacrament, as well as an understanding of the Blessed Mother, saints, and angels will be covered. At the end of the year, the students will participate in a program dealing with teenage pressures and issues from a moral, Catholic-Christian perspective.
MATERIALS: Please bring to class daily: textbook, 1 subject notebook, folder, looseleaf, pen.
HOMEWORK:
Please review class material each week. Written homework assignments and small projects will occur occasionally. All assignments are to be turned in on time or points will be deducted from the work.
JOURNAL:
Journals will be used for scripture passages, personal reflections, and class activities. Generally, the journal will be used on a daily basis. They should be well-organized, complete, and neat. Journals will be collected and graded twice a trimester on the following weeks: Sept. 24, Oct. 29, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, March 17, April 28. (Subject to change; notification will be given if necessary.)
TESTS AND QUIZZES:
Tests will be given at the end of each chapter. Quizzes and projects will be assigned periodically throughout the trimester. Unsatisfactory grades must be signed by a parent or guardian.
PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN YOU ACCESS YOUR CHILD’S GRADES THROUGH POWERSCHOOL, RELIGION GRADES WILL NOT OCCUR ON A WEEKLY BASIS.
